After years of violence and terrorism, some members of Boko Haram are eager to negotiate a way out of the conflict with the Nigerian government,Vanguard reports.

The Nigerian daily says the group's apparent eagerness to talk comes in response to calls for dialogue from recently elected President Muhammadu Buhari. Vanguard also cites a U.S. pledge to improve military support for Nigeria, amid reports that the Islamist sect's activities may have been funded by illegal sales of oil, bringing in vast sums on money in terrorist coffers.

"You are ways ahead of extinguishing Boko Haram. African Union has now recognised that Boko Haram is a threat to the region. We can collaborate within the law to defeat Boko Haram," U.S. Congresswoman Sheila Jackson Lee said.
